Getting Listed

It's easier to explain why a site may not be listed rather than why it's listed, so you better read this first before submitting your site.

Microcontroller.com is a free online reference for the Engineering community, providing quality Embedded systems industry links and content.

Our links include major semiconductor manufacturers and embedded development tools suppliers in the Embedded Systems Industry.

Microcontroller.com is privately owned, and links to external web sites at our sole discretion. Sites that are linked are those that meet our high standards of quality. Viewers may submit sites to be listed. Sites are cheerfully reviewed by our human editors who may list a site as appropriate. On rare occasions, some site may be denied a listing on Microcontroller.com.

Common reasons why a submitted site might not be listed includes:

  • Board Manufacturers: There are more board manufacturers out there than I can name. Sometimes I think that there are more board manufacturers out there than engineers... and except for a small handful, none of them advertise. Believe me, it takes hard work to maintain a site like this, and I really appreciate it when our hard work is rewarded with advertising dollars. Look, we really like you guys, but with few exceptions, the myriad board manufacturers out there compete with the companies that help pay our bills. Sorry, no board manufacturers.
  • Lack of Quality Content: The submitted site may lack sufficient technical content for inclusion. Examples are semiconductor companies with no App Notes, or no selection guides; embedded development tools companies that don't support their products, or have poor quality tools; sites that discuss basic electronic principles on a most elementary level; sites that only contain collections of links and lack hard technical content.
  • Poor Site Construction: Often we are asked to link to sites may have quality content, but have excessive download times, poor navigation, or other site readability problems. In these situations, the requester will be notified of the site's problems and will be asked to resubmit when the site is improved.
  • Excessive PDF Files: Microcontroller.com links to sites that provide quality on-line content. PDF files can provide an ungainly online experience. It takes time navigating PDF files, and according to feedback people are more apt to abandon a site whose technical content is mostly PDF files.
  • Negative Feedback: In some cases sufficient negative feedback may have been received about a company or its products that they may not be listed. This includes ethical concerns with their company or bad experiences with their management. Don't worry, these people already know exactly who they are.
  • Limited Product Offering: This may be a microcontroller or DSP company with only one or two product offerings, or a development tool company that has a very limited product range. This usually applies to a company that has not changed its product offering over a long period of time.
  • Very Old Technology: This applies to a company or reference that relies on very old, outdated technology
  • Legal Concerns: While rare, some web sites may be denied a listing if a cursory review reveals that the web site may violate certain ethical and/or legal standards for web site construction. This includes, but is not limited to: illegal framing, deep linking, posting unique content through embedded HTTP GET without appropriate credit, or inappropriate use of trademarked terms in site content or meta tags.
