Updating
the code in each microcontroller must often be done at the micro's physical
location. Compatibility issues with the network and the custom GUI interface
can occur
Each
workstation has a custom-built GUI that is built upon the machine's operating
system. The GUI's stability, therefore, relies heavily upon the inherent stability
of the OS. Any change to the GUI's interoperability with the network, or the
way it handles network data, could require modification of the embedded code
as well.
The
3rd point of SW maintenance is the network drivers in both the micro & the
workstations. Compatibility must be maintained regardless of any other changes
to the system
