Microchip Introduces PIC16HV540 OTP Microcontroller with on-chip voltage regulator

Company:

Microchip

Category:

Microcontroller Cores (new Product)

Date:

30-Nov-1998

Chandler, AZ (microcontroller.com) - Microchip Technology introduced the 8-bit RISC PIC16HV540 - the first low-cost 8-bit microcontroller with an on-chip voltage regulator and high-voltage I/O.

The PIC16HV540 contains an on-chip 3V and 5V on-chip voltage regulator that can accept input voltages from 3.5V to 13.5V to the regulator. This allows the chip to interface directly to 3V to 12V batteries (including automotive batteries), while still allowing the microcontroller to operate over a wide input voltage range as the battery voltage degrades. The microcontroller can also operate using unregulated voltage sources.

The device has eight I/O pins that can accept input voltages up to 15V and can drive outputs up to a 15V rail.

Features PIC16HV540

  • PIC16 8-bit RISC Core - Register-based architecture
  • 12-bit Instruction Length
  • 512x12 EPROM Program Memory
  • 25 bytes RAM
  • On-chip voltge regulator
  • 8 high-voltage I/O Pins
  • Device Reset Timer (Watchdog Timer)
  • 8-bit Timer
  • Power-On Reset with Brownout Protection
  • 18-pin PDIP, SOIC, CERDIP, SSOP Packages

Pricing and Availability
The PIC16HV540 microcontrollers will be sampling first quarter 1999, with production quantities available about the same time. Pricing will be $1.34 @ 1,000Ku quantities.

For more information on these products, contact Microchip Technology.

Code Compatibility
The PIC16HV540 will be code compatible with all other members of the Microchip PIC16xxx family.

Development Tools
Microchip's PIC microcontroller families have excellant development tool support, with an extensive vendor list of In-circuit emulators and compilers.
