Chandler, AZ (microcontroller.com) - Microchip Technology introduced a new  8-bit microcontroller - the PIC12CR509A - in an 8-pin package that has 1K of ROM and is only 49¢ in quantities of 50Ku.

The new 8-pin ROM microcontroller is supported for development with the PIC12C509A with 1024 words of EPROM program memory.

The PIC12Cxxx family is Microchip's 8-pin microcontroller family..

Code Compatibility
The PIC12CR509A is code-compatible with other members of the PIC12Cxxx, and code can be easily ported to the  PIC16C5x, PIC16Cxxx, PIC17Cxxx, and PIC18Cxxx microcontroller families.

Development Tools
Full-speed in-circuit emulation for the PIC12CR509A is supported by Microchip's MPLAB™-ICE2000 Universal In-Circuit Emulator. Interchangeable modules allow the MPLAB to be configured to emulate different processors.

Microchip's PIC microcontroller families have excellent development tool support, with an extensive vendor list of In-circuit emulators and compilers.
