	Moorpark, CA – July 16, 1999 -- Signum Systems Corp. has released a new POD for support of the TEMIC TS80C32X2 microcontroller. The TEMIC Semiconductors device is a new member of their 8051 family of microcontrollers which uses the X2 feature to double the internal operating frequency, allowing up to 60 MHz equivalent speed with a 30 MHz external quartz at 5V. The same device is rated at 40 MHz when working with 3V power supply, which makes it the fastest of-the-shelf, low voltage 8051 family microcontroller. The X2 feature shortens the typical instruction execution time from 400 nsec. to 200 nsec. The new TS80C32X2 microcontroller also features dual data pointers and may be ordered in ROMless, ROM and OTP versions. Signum Systems’ USP-51A emulator with a new POD32X2-60 fully emulates the TEMIC Semiconductors TS80C32X2 device in targets at the maximum clock speed of 64 MHz. The POD uses the standard TS80C32X2 device for emulation and allows to switch between internal and external clock and power sources via software control. To allow for this high-speed in-target emulation, POD32X2-60 plugs directly into the user’s 40-pin processor socket. 44-PLCC footprints are supported with an optional socket adapter. POD32X2-60 also supports the ONCE (On-Chip Emulation) mode of emulation which facilitates testing and debugging of the microcontroller without the device having to be removed from the circuit. This mode requires an optional ONCE Adapter that simply clips over the microcontroller and allows the POD32X2-60 to be plugged into it. POD32X2-60 fully supports debugging of target power-up and power-down sequences and does not take any extra power from target board nor will it supply any current to target board when the target is off. The new POD works with Signum Systems’ USP-51A line of In-Circuit Emulators which now supports hundreds of 8051 derivatives from Intel, Philips, Infineon, Atmel, TEMIC Semiconductors, OKI, Dallas Semiconductors and Silicon Systems. Prices for POD32X2 are $795, $895 and $1,095 for up to 30, 40 and 60 MHz, respectively. The 44-PLCC adapter is priced at $200 and the 44-PLCC ONCE clip-over adapter is $250.
