- Wind River Systems, a mainstream provider of quality
development tools including compilers and RTOS technology, has announced that it intends
to support the Siemens Microelectronics TriCore 32-bit architecture with
Wind River's Tornado Development Environment. "The Tornado port marks an important milestone in the evolution of the TriCore architecture. [Tornado provides] a complete solution for real-world product development and deployment. Furthermore, by bring the Tornado environment's VxWorks® real-time operating system into the TriCore picture developers can make TriCore applications that deliver maximum performance and reliability" claims Tony Webser, Worldwide Marketing Director for Signal Processing and Data Communications Controllers for Siemens. The Siemens TriCore architecture is targeted for applications where real-world control must occurr while time-critical DSP tasks must also take place. The Siemens 32-bit TriCore microcontroller/DSP, married with the Tornado tool set, can be targeted towards automotive powertrain applications, networking (data communications, WAN/LAN interfaces), wireless telephones, GPS-based systems, and medical imaging. The Wind River Tornado development environment supports more that 20 target processor families and runs on UNIX, Windows 95, and Windows NT.
