Protel International Limited, today announced that the organization has been
renamed Altium Limited. Altium Limited is the
new corporate brand that will work hand-in-hand with all current and future
individual product brands and serve as a highly recognizable corporate platform
adding value to the organization's current and future products. All current product brands, such as Protel, P-CAD, TASKING, Accolade, CircuitMaker and CAMtastic!, will continue to be developed, marketed and sold under their respective brand names, with Altium representing to customers a unified source for these and future product brands. All corporate, sales, support and promotional activities will take place under the Altium name, and all operating subsidiaries will also be renamed from this date. Altium "Super Design IDE" The Company's strength in board design tools and the recent acquisitions of FPGA and embedded software design technologies, makes Altium a true single source for hardware and software design tools. Altium's unique "Design Explorer" tool integration platform currently powering the Protel 99 SE board design solution will be used as the platform upon which all Altium product brands, including the Tasking C compiler, will be based. The creation of a single environment integrating all the tools required by engineers and designers is a key ingredient in the Altium vision. Altium and Design Explorer bring the following elements to the design engineer, all under one roof, and all under one common development environment:
Design Explorer has APIs defined for tool developers, allowing data to be passed back & forth between different tool elements, which also allows support for plug-ins. Example: Imagine your Tasking software debugger integrated with a hardware simulator, allowing for waveform debugging that completely matches your target system's characteristics. Shared files are easily managed across a project (all hardware and software files share the same database). The designer can move from PCB to C code development and always be in the same environment. While all of the Altium tools will share the common interface, all tools can be purchased separately, and, including the Tasking compilers, will include the Design Explorer interface. In the opinion of Microcontroller.com, this is a revolutionary way to develop an Embedded Systems project. As stated by Nick Martin, Protel founder and joint CEO of Altium Limited: About Altium Limited Since the Company’s foundation in 1985 and its release of the world’s first Microsoft Windows–based EDA tool in 1991, Altium has continued to apply the most advanced software design methods to provide powerful, easy-to-use and affordable design software to engineers and electronics designers worldwide. Altium’s current product brands include Protel, P-CAD, TASKING, Accolade, CircuitMaker and CAMtastic!. These products offer tailored solutions covering a range of hardware and software design processes. Altium is headquartered in Sydney, Australia, and operates a number of sales and support offices in Australia, the United States, Japan and Europe – as well as maintaining a large reseller network in all other major markets. More information about the Company and its products and services may be obtained from our new website at http://www.altium.com. Altium and the Altium logo are registered trademarks of Altium Limited.
