MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., October 6, 1999 Triscend Corporation, manufacturers of microcontrollers with Configurable System-on-Chip (CSoC), today announced it has begun sampling the TE505, the second member of the E5™ family of Configurable System-on-Chip devices. The E5 family combines, on a single device, a performance-enhanced version of the 8032 microcontroller, RAM, programmable logic, a dedicated bus, and a variety of system functions.
The E5’s feature set makes it ideally suited for telecom, datacom, and embedded control applications that have a critical time-to-market requirement. Designers can now create a single-chip solution saving substantial development time, cost, and board space over existing alternatives. "Delivering the second device in the E5 family is a key milestone for Triscend," said Tim Smith, Vice President of Component Marketing at Triscend Corporation. "Not only does this give our customers the flexibility to choose a device that is optimal for their application, but it also demonstrates our ability to quickly execute on the delivery of new products."
A Single-Chip Embedded System
The TE505 is based on a performance-enhanced 8032 microcontroller core.
Virtually any peripheral logic function can be implemented in the CSL matrix. Customers may select functions from the library included with the Triscend FastChip™ Development System, develop their own functions, or purchase functions from a third party intellectual property (IP) provider. The system bus or Configurable System Interconnect (CSI) bus consists of a 32-bit address bus and an 8-bit data bus. The interface between the CSI bus and the CSL is the CSI Socket, which defines the physical signaling interface between the CSI bus and the CSL matrix as well as the communication protocol between soft peripherals and the CSI bus. The CSI Socket is processor independent and allows for the re-use of soft IP peripherals across various E5 family members or other Triscend Configurable System-on-Chip families.
The TE505 is fabricated at UMC Group in Taiwan on an advanced four-layer metal, 0.35 micron CMOS process technology. The device operates at 3.3 volts with 5 volt tolerant I/O.
Availability and Pricing
Engineering samples of the TE505 in both the PQ208 and LQ128 packages are now shipping. High-volume production shipments will begin in
January. The TE505 is available in both 25MHz and 40MHZ versions. The 25MHz version of the TE505 is priced at $13.55 in 100-unit quantities
and at $8 in high-volume. The first device in the family, the TE520, is currently in high volume
production. The TE520 has 40Kbytes of RAM, 2,048 CSL cells (approximately 30,000 ASIC gates), and up to 252 PIOs. The 25MHz version
of the TE520 is priced at $45 in 100-unit quantities.
About Triscend
Founded in 1997, Triscend Corporation is pioneering the Configurable System-on-Chip (CSoC) - a single-chip combination of a dedicated
industry-standard microprocessor, programmable logic, memory and a dedicated system bus. The Triscend CSoC devices, along with the FastChip
Development System, enable embedded systems designers to significantly reduce time-to-market without sacrificing product differentiation.
Triscend products are sold direct and through distribution partners such as All American and Bell Micro in the US and Internix in Japan. Triscend
is privately held and venture capital funded. The Company is headquartered at 301 N. Whisman Road, Mountain View, CA 94043. More
