Microchip has announced today that they have shipped their One Millionth development tool. That includes Microchip-labelled compilers, debuggers, evaluation boards, programmers, etc.

Microchip offers a single, unified environment for programming their 8-, 16-, and 32-bit microcontrollers. This same environment is shared by their dsPIC digital signal controllers.

This commonality of programming environments, along with a strategy of socket compatibility across product lines, has been a significant factor in Microchip's success.
