From Microcontroller.com Embedded Networking Jacksonville, FL – September 15, 2003 – CMX Systems, well-known designer of real-time operating systems and TCP/IP software, announced today the release of the Wireless Ethernet Add-On Option for the CMX-MicroNet TCP/IP stack. CMX-MicroNet is the popular and extremely small TCP/IP stack used for years by designers around the world to add networking connectivity to their 8-bit and 16-bit processors. The new Wireless Ethernet Add-On Option adds a powerful new 802.11b networking connectivity option to CMX-MicroNet, in addition to its existing Direct, Dial Up, and Ethernet modules for embedded designers. The Wireless Ethernet Add-On Option for CMX-MicroNet can be used in polled mode, interrupt-driven mode and with or without an RTOS. WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) can be turned off, set to 64-bit mode or 128-bit mode. The driver can be used in Infrastructure mode (using an Access Point) or Ad Hoc mode (without an Access Point). Currently, the Wireless Ethernet Add-On Option for CMX-MicroNet supports the Intersil Prism WLAN chipset. Chuck Behrmann, president and CEO of CMX, said, "We are very pleased to announce this important new functionality for CMX-MicroNet. Embedded designers using 8-bit and 16-bit processors now have a significant networking connectivity option that will allow them to take advantage of the huge interest in Wi-Fi applications for their products." The range of potential Wireless Ethernet embedded applications, from home/office networking to industrial automation control to medical equipment monitoring, etc., continue to grow at a rapid pace. By offering this important technology on relatively inexpensive 8-bit and 16-bit processors, CMX is taking an important step in further broadening this market. In fact, the new Wireless Ethernet Add-On Option, and the existing capability of CMX-MicroNet to work with GPRS modems, give embedded developers the ability to "Go Mobile" using a minimum of ROM and RAM on very small and economical processors. About CMX-MicroNet: CMX-MicroNet is a scaled down, software TCP/IP stack with a total ROM footprint of 3Kb - 20Kb, depending upon configuration, for 8-bit processors or those 16-bit processors that require a single-chip solution with no external memory. CMX-MicroNet supports more 8-bit and 16-bit microprocessors than any other existing solution. CMX-MicroNet is currently available, starting at $5,500 for the base system. All CMX software includes complete source code, no royalties on shipped products, and free technical support/updates.
