IAR Systems announced today that a new product, IAR MakeApp for Hitachi H8, has been released. IAR MakeApp for Hitachi H8 helps engineers write device driver code quickly and easily via a user-friendly GUI. Features include initialization, runtime control and interrupt handling functions. A project report in HTML format can also be generated and the component browser visualizes the chip details.

The new IAR MakeApp product for Hitachi H8 is a result of the previously announced orders from Hitachi Micro-Systems Europe Ltd. on IAR MakeApp device driver development technology for Hitachi SH and H8 microcontrollers. An IAR MakeApp for Hitachi SH has already been released.

Benefits with the new IAR MakeApp for Hitachi H8
IAR MakeApp for Hitachi H8 uses the 4th generation of IAR MakeApp Technology that includes several new features, such as a drawing editor, component browser, project report generation, and report viewer. The new product platform provides new power and flexibility for device driver development as well as automatic source code generation for embedded systems. Using visual configuration and automatic code generation in IAR MakeApp device drivers can be developed in hours rather than weeks.

The tool generates a complete software library in ANSI-C source code to initialize, control and manipulate the features in the microcontroller from an application program.

IAR MakeApp features include:
· Idea and Design (Chip learning, Built-in rule checking detects illegal settings)
· Prototyping and Implementation (“Click an Go” of driver variants. Automatic calculation of SFR values. Generated device drivers are optimized and easy to understand)
· Test and Debug (Generated device drivers tested and debugged)
· Documentation (Project report generation)
· Production and Maintenance (Simple re-generation of modified drivers)
· Updates and Improvements (New features can easily be tested)
