8051 RTOS RTX51 Tiny Announced from Keil Software

Plano, TX: Keil Software, today announced the availability of RTX51 Tiny Version 2—a, real-time operating system (RTOS) with a very small footprint designed for use with the 8051 family of microcontrollers. RTX51 Tiny Version 2 incorporates many customer-suggested features and enhancements. Among these are:

RTX51 Kernel Overview

- Reduced Code Size: RTX51 Tiny Version 2 has been restructured to to be more modular. This reduces the size of programs that don't use all RTX51 Tiny features.

- Code Banking: RTX51 Tiny Version 2 now supports code banking applications.
- Explicit Task Switching: A new function (os_task_switch) allows a task to immediately switch to another task that is ready.

- MCU Idle Mode: The idle task now supports the MCU Idle Mode feature found on many 8051 devices. Tasks that enter Idle Mode use less power.

RTX51 Tiny Version 2 is available only in the PK51 Professional Developer's Kit starting in V7.02 (Beta Releases were available starting in C51 V7.00). Existing customers with valid software maintenance contracts can download the V7.02 Update.
